Why Work With Us?

Success Stories & Testimonials

“I have had the privilege of collaborating with Samira in hosting a family-oriented event at the Madison Children’s Museum, celebrating Latin American music, art, and culture. Through this experience, I have witnessed Samira’s extraordinary ability to connect with and inspire families from diverse backgrounds. I am so impressed by her deep-rooted commitment to cultural education and community wellbeing.”

HBCD, UW Madison

“Samira did a wonderful job presenting at the 2023 WIDA Conference in Milwaukee on SEL for multilingual learners.”

WIDA FOUNDER & Senior PI

“Colaborar con Samira en Mis Emociones como diseñadora e ilustradora ha sido una experiencia profundamente enriquecedora. Ver el impacto del programa bilingüe de aprendizaje socioemocional (SEL) en escuelas y familias es realmente inspirador. Cada visita escolar dejó una huella de sensibilidad, aprendizaje y amor por la literatura en niños y adolescentes.”

Visual Artist & Illustrator

Research and Family Learning Manager
Madison Children's Museum

“It has been such a pleasure to connect with Samira Álvarez Gretzinger! We were delighted to collaborate with her on hosting an event for preschool age children and families in Spanish. Samira read her book, Así Respiro, and facilitated fun art activities to teach breathing exercises for self-regulation and emotional wellbeing. Samira’s enthusiasm and passion shine through in all she does! We are deeply appreciative of her knowledge of social-emotional learning and the rich cultural and linguistic resources she shares through her work with the community.”

Reach Dane

“Samira Álvarez brings her passion for children and families, language, and social-emotional wellbeing into each project she is a part of. This became evident in working with her to translate my book, The Place Where I Belong / El lugar al que pertenezco, into Spanish. Her personal interest in the story and the care she took with the translation made it possible for a broader audience to have access to the book and its message. I have been grateful for the opportunity to work with Samira.”

Author & Mosaic Artist

“Participants at the 2023 WIDA Conference had the opportunity to learn about Mis Emociones texts during a workshop that we co-facilitated. Teachers were thrilled to have a meaningful classroom resource that they could use to build social emotional development in their students. Stories center experiences of authentic characters and are written in Spanish, filling a gap in what's often available in children's literature. Samira's books offer a refreshing space to build a sense of belonging and address the critical need for supporting our immigrant communities in today's climate.”

Bilingual Education Professor Edgewood College

“I invited Samira Álvarez Gretzinger to present her work and give a guest lecture to students in the UW Madison undergraduate course on Family & Community Influences on the Young Child. Through illustrative examples from her work as an author and teacher, she helped the students make connections between literacy and language development, cultural identity, family interactions, and socioemotional learning.”
